Executive Coaching
Supporting the leadership development of senior managers
Individual facilitation is part of Impact’s portfolio of services and is most often referred to as coaching. These one to one conversations may take place on development programmes or as individually arranged one to one interventions as part of a personal development process. They may be face to face or by telephone, stand-alone or part of a larger development programme.
Impact coaches operate in line with the competencies and code of ethics of the International Coaching Federation (ICF).
Coaching is defined by the ICF as: “an ongoing partnership that helps clients produce results in their personal and professional lives. Through the process of coaching, clients deepen their learning, improve their performance, and enhance their quality of life”. As a result of coaching, clients set better goals, take more action, make better decisions, and more fully use their natural strengths.
How we work with you:
The learning journey begins with clear expectations being established on each side of the coaching relationship. A clear agreement on goals and expected achievements is drawn up between the two parties.
The focus of Executive Coaching is on improving the individual’s abilities as a leader and manager, by working through real-life examples to build on strengths and overcome weaknesses. This process involves several styles of intervention aimed at understanding the drivers behind the individual’s behaviour and using the coach’s skill and insight to help them change. The coach and coachee keep up regular contact (by telephone and e-mail) and meet in person on a regular basis.
Impact regards coaching as the creation of a safe place for exploring what is important to you as the client. Coaching provides an environment of trust, safety and collaboration where issues can be explored without fear of judgement.
Within the appropriate coaching environment you will feel able to:
• Explore what you want
• Examine and remove blocks to progress
• Design and implement strategies that move you in the direction you desire
Although sometimes giving advice may be appropriate this is not the purpose of coaching and will only be given where it serves your agenda.
Impact believes that:
• You already have all the answers and resources you need to have the life you want
• You make the best decisions you can all of the time
• Above all Impact believes that coaching can be a powerful and effective way to increase choice and achieve even greater results in all aspects of your life.
Impact’s customised Executive Coaching development process uses a 3-phase approach: Awareness, Analysis and Action
Awareness - an Impact Coach helps the learner to create a picture of how their personal performance links to business goals. This comprises a range of test instruments – including 360 degree feedback, MBTI© and OPQ32 - to raise awareness of key strengths and opportunities for development as well as likely problem areas.
Analysis - the Coach explores what future leadership behaviour should look like by reviewing organisation-specific leadership competencies and values. Specific behavioural indicators are identified and mapped against the learner's current performance measures. This ensures that the future-focus is anchored to actual events and situations.
Action - the period of trialling leadership behaviours is followed by detailed feedback. This ensures that the Coach is available as a 'handrail' for the learner as he/she completes a series of action steps toward their goals.
Impact can help you to:
• support the induction or appointment of a senior person into an executive or wider role
• accelerate the personal development of individuals defined as “high potential”
• support wider personal effectiveness programmes
• underpin the effective implementation of organisational change
• change behaviours, either by maximising effective behaviours or reducing limiting behaviours
• provide a sounding board for a senior individual
